Baseball Operation

Default Baseball Settings are adjusted using the Game Setup menu options.

Timer Functions

  • START/STOP: Starts and stops the main timer. Default timer display is hours:minutes until under 10 minutes remain. To change the timer to display minutes:seconds, adjust game setting 8. Timer Mode to MM:SS.

  • Up/Down: Change the direction of the timer. Default direction is count down.

  • Edit Time: Key in the new time followed by ENTER. To set hours, minutes, and seconds, key in five (5) digits. For example, key in 23159 ENTER to change the clock to 2:31:59.

  • Reset Time: Resets the time back to the default Game Time specified in the Game Settings menu.

  • Time of Day: Show the current clock time (time of day) on the scoreboard timer. Pressing the key when the time of day is shown toggles back to the timer time.

Scoring

Note

The Score +1 and Score -1 keys will be disabled for the team in the field.

  • Press the Score +1 key for the team at-bat to add one run to their score. Pressing Score -1 will remove a run from that team’s score.

  • The Guest Team scoring keys are enabled during the Top of the inning, when the AT BAT -> is pointing to the guest team on the display. Home Team scoring keys are disabled until the Next Half Innning key is pressed and the <- AT BAT is pointing at the home team on the display (Bottom of the inning).

  • Edit the team score at any time by pressing Edit Score, using the number pad, and the ENTER key. CLEAR key is used to exit edit mode without changes.

Inning

  • Next Half Inning key will switch the team at bat, and after the bottom of the inning will increment the inning number.

  • Edit Inning key will allow the inning number to be changed, and will set the team at bat to GUEST (top of the inning). If the team at bat should be HOME team, press the Next Half Inning key to toggle.

Ball / Strike / Out

  • Use the Ball, Strike, and Out keys to increment their respecitve counters for the player and team at-bat.

  • The count of ball, strike, and out will wrap back to zero on the key press after they reach the max value set in the Game Settings screen.

  • When Auto Pitch Count is enabled in the game settings, pressing the Ball or Strike keys will increment the opposing team pitcher’s pitch count.

Tip

Do not use the Ball or Strike keys to reset their values to zero, use the Next Batter key instead.

Next Batter

  • Next Batter key is used to reset the Ball and Strike counts to zero in preparation for the next player to bat.

  • Use this key when Auto Pitch Count is enabled to prevent adding extra pitches to the pitch count.

  • Pressing the Next Batter key will clear the player number in the AT BAT field if a Lineup has not been defined.

Hit / Error Indicators

  • On scoreboards which have HIT and ERROR indicators, the operator may use the Hit or Error INDICATORS keys to light the respective indicator as necessary by the official scoring call.

  • The indicators will turn off on the next key press of any valid key.

  • When pressing the Error key, the console will prompt for the position of the player who committed the error. Key in the position number (1-9) followed by ENTER key to send that information to the scoreboard.

  • If no error position field is shown on the scoreboard, simply press ENTER key to omit entering the error position and illuminate the error indicator.

Hit / Error Counters

  • When a scoreboard has HIT and ERROR count fields, use the Hits +1 and Errors +1 keys for the respective team to increment those counts.

  • The display will show a value below H and E for each team’s hit and error count, respectively.

  • The Hits +1 and Errors +1 keys DO NOT light the HIT or ERROR indicators on the scoreboard.

  • To change the hit or error count, press the Edit Hits or Edit Errors key for the respective team. A > pointer will point to the H or E field to be edited on the display. Key in the correct count using the number pad and press ENTER to accept. Press the CLEAR key to exit without changes.

Pitcher

  • Use the Pitcher key to set the player number of the pitcher in the field.

  • The first time the pitcher number is set, the pitch count will not be reset to zero.

  • Setting the pitcher number to a different value will reset the pitch count to zero.

  • On the display the HP home pitcher number and GP guest pitcher numbers are shown.

  • If a pitcher previously recording pitch counts is taken out and put back in during the same game, their pitch count will resume where it was when pitcher was removed.

Pitch Count

  • Press the Pitch Count +1 key for the team in the field to increment the pitch count as necessary.

  • When Auto Pitch Count game setting is enabled, pressing the Ball and Strike keys will add 1 to the pitch count for the pitcher in the field. Press Pitch Count +1 key to count warm-up pitches or fouled off pitches as necesary.

  • When Auto Pitch Count is disabled, press the Pitch Count +1 key for the pitcher in the field to count every pitch.

  • Use the Edit Pitch Count key to change the pitch count for the current pitcher number for that respecitve team.

  • Edit the pitch count at any time using the number pad and the ENTER key. CLEAR key is used to exit edit mode without changes.

  • The console display shows HPC home pitch count and GPC guest pitch count fields.

  • Pitch counts will be cleared when a new game is started.

Note

Pitch Count +1 key will be disabled for the team at-bat.

Pitch Stats

  • Pitch Stats key for each team will display the list of pitchers and their pitch counts.

  • Press the Right Down ARROW to move to the next page of pitchers when the list contains more than 4 pitchers.

  • Press the Left Up ARROW to move to the previous page of pitchers.

  • Press the CLEAR key to exit the Pitch Stats screen and return to normal Baseball operation screen.

  • If the Pitch Stats screen is displayed and ball/strike/out keys are pressed, the counts will increment and display on the scoreboard. They will not update on the console display until exiting the Pitch Stats screen.

Pitch Speed

  • To display the pitch speed on a scoreboard with that feature, two methods are possible:

    1. Connect a radar gun with an adapter to the RS232 port

    2. Press PITCH SPEED key and set pitch speed manually

  • Connect a Stalker Sports Radar radar gun with a wired or wireless interface kit to the MSC9000 console using the radar gun adapter.

  • Press the transmit key on the radar to measure pitch speed and send that data to the console.

  • Pitch Speed will be displayed on the console in the PS field and simultaneously sent to the scoreboard.

  • To clear the pitch speed, press the transmit key on the radar without an incoming pitch to measure or press the PITCH SPEED key on the consle and key in 0 and ENTER.

  • When radar gun continuous transmit mode is enabled, the pitch speed will be displayed and cleared when the value sent from the radar gun changes.

Batter

  • When a scoreboard has a player AT BAT field, use the Batter key to set the batter’s number.

  • Player number at-bat is shown in the Bat field on the console display.

  • Setting the batter number after each at-bat will be necessary. The Next Batter key will clear the player number AT BAT.

  • When Use Lineup game setting is enabled and lineups are filled, the Next Batter key will populate the Bat field with the next player in the lineup, and wrap to the top after the last player in the lineup.

Lineup

  • Enable by configuring the Use Lineup = YES game setting in Baseball to automatically advance the players in the lineup with Next Batter and Next Half Inning keys.

  • Press Lineup key to enter lineups. When user starts a new game, number of players question is shown along with empty lineups. Limit 9 to 20 players in the lineup.

  • Full lineups may be entered by pressing the respecitve team’s Lineup key followed by keying in all players in the lineup. Or press the Next Batter key to move to the next lineup spot, and Batter key and enter the player number. When complete, press the CLEAR key to return to normal Baseball operation screen.

  • Next Batter key moves to the next player in the lineup when that player comes to the plate. Next Half Inning switch between the two lineups.

  • Normal operation the user will press Next Batter followed by Next Half Inning at the end of an inning half.

  • In the case of a put-out on the bases ending an inning, the user shall not press Next Batter. Press Next Half Inning. When returning to team with same player at the plate at the end of the last inning, player is still shown in the at-bat field, with a fresh ball-strike count.

  • Lineups will be cleared when a new game is started.
